Trocadéro: The Paris Neighborhood Steps Away from the Eiffel Tower
The Trocadéro is located in the 16th arrondissement of Paris, just a few hundred meters from the Eiffel Tower. If you've arrived in the City of Light and can't wait to admire the monumental Iron Lady, Place du Trocadéro offers one of the most incredible views of Paris's most iconic monument. But that's not all; here you'll find the Palais de Chaillot and can take a moment to relax in the beautiful Trocadéro gardens.
The Monumental Trocadéro Area
The Trocadéro is the monumental area of Paris that includes several sites such as the Palais de Chaillot, the Gardens (Jardin du Trocadéro), the Aquarium, and the square of the same name in front of the Eiffel Tower (Place du Trocadéro), all built for the same event: the 1937 World's Fair.
Initially, the Trocadéro was a Moorish-style palace. Built by Gabriel Davidoud and Jules Bourdais for the 1878 World's Fair, it was later demolished and replaced by the Palais de Chaillot. But the Trocadéro is also the neighborhood with the esplanade featuring the Eiffel Tower and the Champ de Mars. You guessed it, we're in the heart of Paris!
The Trocadéro area is one of the most prestigious and frequented parts of the city and a favorite "photo shoot" spot for couples in love (and not just them!). It also hosts events and is often the location for urban performances of skating, skateboarding, and street dance.
Let's take a look at the main points of interest in this monumental area of Paris.
The Eiffel Tower: An Unmatched Perspective from Trocadéro Square
Metro, lines 6 and 9, get off at Trocadéro station: turn the corner and you'll find yourself facing the Eiffel Tower in all its grandeur.
Many say this is the most beautiful perspective of the symbolic monument of Paris and a spot for spectacular photos.
The walk of about 10 minutes from Trocadéro to the Eiffel Tower across the Seine via the Pont d'Iéna is one of the most beautiful in Paris: as you get closer, you'll admire the monument in all its beauty.
If you want to take the perfect photo of the Eiffel Tower, position yourself in Esplanade du Trocadéro.
The Jardins du Trocadéro and the Warsaw Fountain
The long gardens stretching from Esplanade du Trocadéro to the Seine are one of those pleasant places to stop, rest for a while, grab a bite to eat, relax, and enjoy the sun on a beautiful Parisian day.
The highlight of the garden is the famous Warsaw Fountain built for the 1937 World's Fair.
Its cascading water features and jets shooting up are impressive, especially at dusk when the jets can reach heights of up to 40 feet!
Attractions in the Trocadéro Area
On the bank of the Seine on the Trocadéro side stands the majestic Palais de Tokyo. Dedicated exclusively to contemporary art, it hosts art exhibitions and innovative experiments.
At Place du Trocadéro, you will find the monumental Palais de Chaillot, which with its grand wings seems to embrace the Eiffel Tower. The palace elegantly frames the Trocadéro and houses the Théâtre national de Chaillot and three museums that few may know about: the Muséè de l'Homme, the Musée de la Marine, and the Cité de l'architecture et du patrimoine.
The Paris Aquarium, known as the Trocadéro Aquarium because of its location, houses more than 43 tanks with beautiful varieties of both freshwater and saltwater fish, divided by ecosystems. Your kids will be thrilled, but we're sure you adults will enjoy it too. The shark tank is the most fascinating one.
How to Visit Trocadéro
Trocadéro is one of the stops on the classic route of the Paris hop-on hop-off bus. You can start your tour here or at any of the other designated stops. The complete itinerary takes about two hours: you can comfortably sit aboard and enjoy the Parisian scenery or get off and back on at any time, near the most beautiful attractions or ones you plan to visit.
The ticket is valid for 1 or 2 days (consecutive), and you can start using it at any time.
Additionally, near Trocadéro, at the foot of the Eiffel Tower, specifically at the docks of Port de la Bourdonnais, you will find the boarding locations for various boats, the famous bateaux mouches that take you around on the Seine.
There are many cruise options on the Seine, with the possibility of booking lunch or dinner on board or combining the experience with a visit to some of the most beloved sights in Paris.
An experience to have, as it is a true "staple" of a vacation in Paris.
I remind you that there are many types of hotels in the Trocadéro area, luxury and otherwise. Some of these offer a unique view of the Eiffel Tower and are just a few minutes from the Iron Lady.
