The list from Wine Searcher of the most expensive wines in the world has just been published, and the top spot is held by a wine from Burgundy. The Richebourg Grand Cru by Henri Jayer, with a bottle sold for 14,254 euros.

Founded in London in 1999, Wine Searcher publishes the 50 most expensive wines in the world, a survey conducted with over 54,000 wine merchants, dealers, and producers worldwide. They catalog more than 7,283,489 bottles of wine from all vintages.

Burgundy wines not only occupy the top three positions but also have four others among the top ten, totaling 40 wines in the Top 50 list. Fortunately for the region and unfortunately for us, lovers of these wines, Burgundy produces the most expensive wines in the world, almost completely filling up the entire list.

The first place of the Richebourg Grand Cru is a posthumous tribute to Henri Jayer, the winemaker who passed away in 2006. He was a strong advocate for traditional winemaking rules and opposed the use of chemicals. He created a pure and clear pinot noir.

His wine has become the most expensive in the world, ahead of the most famous Burgundy wine, Romanée Conti, which is now the second most expensive wine at 12,169 euros per bottle.

The first Bordeaux on the list, the renowned Petrus, ranks 18th at 2,469 euros. A second Bordeaux, Le Pin by Jacques Thienpont, ranks 23rd at 2,156 euros.

Only one Côtes du Rhône is mentioned, in 10th place: Ermitade Cuvée Cathelin by Jean Louis Chave at 3,469 euros.

Two Champagnes appear on the list: Krug Clos d'Ambonnay in 24th place at 2,059 euros and Moët et Chandon Dom Pérignon P3 Plénitude brut in 32nd place.
