Rue des Martyrs
Rue des Martyrs is located between the 9th and 18th arrondissements and is one of the most commercial streets in the Pigalle neighborhood. Rue des Martyrs connects the Notre Dame de Lorette church with the Sacré Cœur, the famous Basilica of Montmartre, and encapsulates all the picturesque charm of the 18th arrondissement.
Despite the passing years, Rue des Martyrs still retains its charm, continuing to host traditional merchants, numerous typically Parisian cafes, lively bars, cabarets, and the historic concert hall >.
A Bit of History
Rue des Martyrs takes its name from Saint Denis, the oldest bishop of Paris, who during the Roman Empire, after being beheaded, picked up his head and walked along this famous street, eventually dying a few kilometers further north, where the Basilica of Saint Denis was founded.
