The Private Rooms of Hostels in Paris

In recent years, I have read articles about the transformation of hostels into more pleasant structures, resembling hotels. This evolution is a response to the new demands of travelers.

The demand for accommodations that allow for social interaction and group living is high, but new customers also want comfortable private rooms and bathrooms.

The solution found to meet the individualization of demand while maintaining the communal spirit of hostels has been the poshstels (posh+hostels: chic hostels), or boutique hostels or design hostels, which are more comfortable than a classic hostel, featuring good beds and private rooms with bathrooms. The most frequently cited examples are the Circus in Berlin (click here for more information), the The Independente Hostel in Lisbon (click here), and the Plas Curig in England (click here).

Even existing hostels are slowly increasing their offerings of rooms for one or two people with private bathrooms at the expense of dormitory rooms with shared bathrooms in the hallway.

Major hotel booking sites have noticed the shift in demand and added the option 'hostels' for European capitals.

The area is not dangerous, and as always reiterated, Paris is small, and with the metro, this issue is resolved.

The St Christopher's Gare du Nord is more central, near the Gare de l'Est, Gare du Nord, and Montmartre.
